Are the oval shapes cut out, or moulded into the glass? I have seen quite a bit of moulded Roman glass - and some cut and engraved examples too, but they are much rarer I believe.
The oval-shaped decoration has been cut out from the surface of the glass.
So someone in Roman Chester could afford expensive cut glass.... wonder where they lived?
